A Family Story, Rooted in Tradition

Armenian Wine Cellar is proudly family-owned and family-run. What began in 1988, working alongside in-laws in the family-run delicatessan, evolved into Alfa General Trading—a Mediterranean food importer and distributor — and has since grown into something even closer to our hearts.

In 2021, after more than 30 years in the food and beverage industry, our family took the next step: introducing the wines, brandies, beers, and spirits of Armenia to the UK. This wasn’t just a business decision; it was a personal calling, born out of heritage, passion, and the belief that Armenian wine deserves to be celebrated on the world stage.

Why Armenian Wine?

Why Armenian Wine?

Wine has always been more than a drink in Armenia—it’s part of our identity. The Armenian highlands have been home to viticulture for over 6,000 years, with evidence of the world’s oldest known winery found in the Areni-1 cave. Our native grape varieties, nurtured by volcanic soil and mountain climates, produce wines unlike any other: bold, aromatic, and deeply expressive of their origin.

For us, Armenian Wine Cellar is a way to share that story. As an Armenian family, we feel a responsibility to introduce wine lovers and collectors in the UK to the quality, uniqueness, and history of Armenian winemaking. Every bottle we import is a link between our homeland and our adopted home, a bridge between ancient traditions and modern discovery.

Discover the Heritage

Armenian wine is one of the world’s best-kept secrets—but it shouldn’t be. On our Heritage page, you’ll find the story of Armenia’s 6,000-year-old winemaking tradition, the ancient grape varieties that still flourish today, and the regions that make Armenian wines so distinctive.

This isn’t just wine. It’s history in a glass. And we’re here to help you discover it.

Our Values

Heritage you can taste

Armenia has made wine for over 6,000 years. We champion native grapes and mountain terroirs—from Areni and Voskehat to Kangun—so every bottle feels rooted, not generic.

One bottle, one place

Region matters. We verify the grape and origin for every product and name the single region on the page. If it isn’t clear, we say so and fix it—no guesswork.

Curated for your table

We taste, we select, and we explain simply. Expect straight-talking notes, food pairings that work, and bottles we’d happily pour for family and friends.
